The e-card is a chip card which contains the name, title and social insurance number of the card owner. It provides information about the state of insurance (e.g. responsible health insurance company) that can be accessed by doctors who have a chip card reader.
The e-card has several functions:
- Replacement of the health insurance certificate
- Replacement of the certificate ensuring medical treatment in foreign countries
- Civil card (e-signature)
