Removal of Ice and Snow from Motor Vehicles

Before departure drivers of motor vehicles have to make sure that vision is sufficient and that it ensures safe driving. Therefore, snow and ice must be removed not only from the windscreen, but also from the other windows.

Driving with only a small viewing window can result in a fine and, among other negative consequences, it can have consequences for the driver's insurance in case of an accident.

Furthermore, drivers of motor vehicles are required to remove snow and ice from the vehicle's (including a towed trailer's) lights and number plates. The plates must be clearly visible and readable.

Snow and ice should also be removed from the vehicle's roof as they could loosen during the journey.

Warming up the engine before departure is forbidden and can result in a fine.
